Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem – A German Requiem
With Gavin Carr – conductor
Bournemouth Symphony Chorus and Magna Sinfonia join forces to perform Brahms’ largest choral work, the powerful Ein Deutsches Requiem – A German Requiem. Premièred in 1867 in Vienna, Brahms wrote he would have gladly called the work A Human Requiem and his intention was to write a Requiem to comfort the living rather than the traditional mass for the dead. After revisions, the final version performed in Leipzig in 1869 was met with critical acclaim and recognised as a work of exceptional vision, confirming Brahms’ status as an outstanding international composer.
